AAC, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication, encompasses various methods of expressing ourselves beyond spoken words, from basic gestures or signs to advanced electronic devices. LAMP, which stands for Language Acquisition through Motor Planning, is a specialized approach that utilizes neurological and motor learning principles, typically with speech-generating devices.
Our LAMP certification signifies that our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) possess the expertise in a highly effective AAC methodology, enabling us to assist clients in discovering their unique voices, especially when verbal communication is a hurdle.
Our approach to AAC therapy is highly personalized. We begin by getting to know the individual – their preferences, aversions, habits, and communication objectives. This insight helps us customize the AAC solution that best fits them.
In our therapy sessions, whether introducing a manual communication board or a speech-generating device, or applying LAMP principles, our focus is on creating an engaging and empowering experience. We believe in the power of fun and interactive therapy, as it fosters the most meaningful learning.
However, our support extends beyond merely introducing an AAC system. We also educate individuals and their caregivers on effective daily use, which may include mastering specific symbols or words, or strategies for encouraging communication throughout the day.
