Articulation Therapy

Welcome! You’ve arrived at Articulation Therapy at Sherwood Park Speech Therapy. When speech sounds aren’t produced correctly, it can lead to misunderstandings, which might be frustrating for both the speaker and their audience. This is where our expertise becomes valuable.

Articulation involves the coordinated movement of the tongue, lips, teeth, and palate to create speech sounds. An articulation delay occurs when a child does not produce these sounds appropriately for their age, such as substituting one sound for another (saying “wabbit” instead of “rabbit”), omitting sounds (“ca” for “cat”), or distorting sounds (a slushy “s”).

Our team of speech-language pathologists specializes in helping children overcome articulation delays. We employ diverse techniques to enhance the accuracy of sound production, thereby improving speech clarity.

Our therapeutic methods are designed to be fun and engaging, filled with activities that keep children eager to learn. We advocate for learning through play as it’s during these moments that children are most receptive to acquiring new skills. Our strategies include practicing sounds with games, stories, and exercises, progressing from single sounds to words, and eventually to sentences and conversation.

Beyond just making correct sounds, we aim to bolster the child’s confidence in their speaking abilities. Confidence in communication is as crucial as the articulation of speech. We celebrate every achievement, big or small, recognizing each step forward as a significant success.

Parents and caregivers play a vital role in this developmental process. We equip you with tips and strategies to reinforce speech practice at home, enhancing your child’s improvement.

At Sherwood Park Speech Therapy, our Articulation Therapy program is dedicated to aiding children in communicating more clearly and confidently. We stand by the belief that everyone deserves to convey their thoughts and feelings precisely as intended.
